Hemlock - Canadice State Forest

Canadice Lake is one of the two remaining undeveloped Finger Lakes, Hemlock is the other. Hemlock Lake is the largest lake in New York State with a completely natural shoreline. As such these two are the paddlesports jewels of the Finger Lakes region.

They form the backbone for the unique City of Rochester water supply system. The elevation of the lakes is 700 feet higher than the City of Rochester meaning that gravity takes care of water pressure in the system. The future of these lakes has been secured by their inclusion in the New York State Forest System.

If you have not experienced these lakes please join us this season.

June 3 - 5, 2011 Western PA Solo Canoe Rendezvous

A special event designed for the solo canoeist, or those curious about solo canoes, of all types and all construction methods. Cooper's Lake Campground, Slippery Rock, PA. Just off I-79, south of I-80. The event will be centered around the campground's 10 acre lake, but other paddling venues are nearby including flat and whitewater sections of Slippery Rock Creek and 3000 acre Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. Pick up paddling trips as well as some scheduled trips are anticipated. There is no fee to attend the event, other than those imposed by the campground. Anyone who camps will be covered for the duration of the event. Those visiting for the day will pay a day fee to the campground that could be between $3.00 and $5.00 per person per day.

Come to celebrate the solo canoe, satisfy your curiosity about these unique craft and those who paddle them, try out some caanoes, paddle with like minded individuals, tell stories and/or sell stuff.

Some manufactures of solo canoes and equipment will be in attendance. Individuals with boats or gear to sell are encouraged to participate.
